54 DAY ROSARY NOVENA
Origin and Method
This devotion, which the author has called the 'Rosary Novenas to Our Lady,' is of comparatively recent origin. In an apparition of Our Lady of Pompeii, which occurred in 1884 at Naples, in the house of Commander Agrelli, the heavenly Mother deigned to make known the manner in which she desires to be invoked.
For thirteen months Fortuna Agrelli, the daughter of the Commander, had endured dreadful sufferings and torturous cramps; she had been given up by the most celebrated physicians. On February 16, 1884, the afflicted girl and her relatives commenced a novena of Rosaries. The Queen of the Holy Rosary favored her with an apparition on March 3rd. Mary, sitting upon a high throne, surrounded by luminous figures, held the divine Child on her lap, and in her hand a Rosary. The Virgin Mother and the holy Infant were clad in goldembroidered garments. They were accompanied by St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena. The throne was profusely decorated with flowers; the beauty of Our Lady was marvelous.

ST. GERARD MAJELLA Patron of Mothers and Children
St. Gerard Majella, religious, is the patron of expectant mothers. He was born at Muro, Italy, in 1726 and joined the Redemptorists at the age of 23, becoming a professed lay brother in 1752. He served as sacristan, gardener, porter, infirmarian, and tailor. However, because of his great piety, extraordinary wisdom, and his gift of reading consciences, he was permitted to counsel communities of religious women.
This humble servant of God also had the faculties of levitation and bi-location associated with certain mystics. His charity, obedience, and selfless service as well as his ceaseless mortification for Christ, made him the perfect model of lay brothers. He was afflicted with tuberculosis and died in 1755 at the age of twenty-nine.
This great saint is invoked as a patron of expectant mothers as a result of a miracle effected through his prayers for a woman in labor.

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI Patron of Animals and the Environment
St. Francis was born to a very wealthy merchant of Assissi in Italy in the year 1812. But unlike his rich companions, he had a soft-heart for the poor. His father disowned him for giving away all his possessions to the needy. Having become poor himself, he lived in a cave in the mountains of Assissi and would live a life of fasting and prayer. Francis preached the gospel and invited others to follow him. His crusade to spread God's love spread all over Europe. He founded the Order of Mendicant Friars or Franciscans. DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena, saving for the last day the most difficult intention of all, the lukewarm and indifferent of whom He said:
"These souls cause Me more suffering than any others; it was from such souls that My soul felt the most revulsion in the Garden of Olives. It was on their account that I said: 'My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass Me by.' The last hope of salvation for them is to flee to My Mercy."
In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her:
"On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy ... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls."

O St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach you while He reposes near your heart. ST. MARTIN DE PORRES Patron of Mexico, black people, hair stylists, innkeepers, the poor and social justice
St. Martin de Porres was born at Lima, Peru, in 1579. His father was a Spanish gentleman and his mother a colored freed-woman from Panama. At fifteen, he became a lay brother at the Dominican Friary at Lima and spent his whole life there as a barber, farm laborer, and infirmarian among other things. He was in charge of distributing the alms of his convent to the poor and became known throughout the city of Lima for his love and care for the needy.
Martin had a great desire to go off to some foreign mission and thus earn the palm of martyrdom. However, since this was not possible, he made a martyr out of his body, devoting himself to ceaseless and severe penances. In turn, God endowed him with many graces and wondrous gifts, such as, aerial flights and bi-location (this explains why his name is invoked by travelers in long distance flights or voyages in planes or ships).

Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or in distressed. It was to procure the happy fruits of millions of souls that you agreed to be in an uncomfortable confessional, which was like a prison, up to 15 to 16 hours on certain days.I will try to develop the habit of frequent confession, to prepare properly each time and to have always regret for my sins, so that the grace of final perseverance but also the sanctification of my soul will be assured. He would have me sin, by rejecting the Holy Sacraments and the life of virtue. ST. PHILOMENA...Healer of Blood Related Illnesses (Diabetes, Anemia, Leukemia...)
In 1802, the remains of a young woman were found in the catacombs of St. Priscilla at the Via Salaria, Italy. It was covered by stones, the symbols on which indicated that the body was a martyr named St. Philomena. The vial containing dry blood (as it was custom to bury a sample of the blood of the martyrs) and the bones were exhumed, catalogued, and effectively forgotten since there was so little known about the person. (The sample of her blood made her the intercessors of those with blood related problems).
ST. THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS Patron of France, Russia and Missionaries
Father Putigan, a Jesuit, began the Novena to Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus on December 3, 1925, asking the glorious Saint for one great favor. For nine days he recited the "Glory be to the Father" twenty-four times thanking the Holy Trinity for the favors and Graces showered on Saint Theresa during the twenty-four years of her life on earth. The priest asked Saint Theresa, that as a sign that his novena was heard he would receive from someone a freshly plucked rose. On the third day of the novena, an unknown person sought out Father Putigan and presented him with a beautiful rose.Father Putigan began the second novena on December 24 of the same year, and as a sign, asked for a white rose. On the fourth day of this novena one of the Sister-nurses brought him a white rose saying: "Saint Theresa sent you this."

Prayer O Lord, You were no stranger to sorrow, to the loss of family and dear friends. You even knew the fear of death. Why, Lord, did you face such trials? Was it so You could understand me in my times of trial? Lord, I offer You my suffering today; do with it as You will, for it is a powerful gift. It is Yours, Lord; let it be my way of saying "I love You."

Prayer Lord, it is only because of the foolishness of Your cross that life makes sense. You abandoned Your own life to teach me what really matters. How I strive after foolish things and use people rather than love people. You died the shameful death on the cross to teach us the joyful lesson in life. Today, Lord, give me the courage to love what is important and to forsake all that is self-serving and deceitful.

Prayer Lord, if only we believed fully in You. Our Holy Father's motto is 'I am all Yours.' Help me believe that You are every answer to every problem, that You are everywhere to guide, strengthen, encourage and lead. Yes, I believe in You, but my faith is often weak. In times of trial I doubt You and in times of joy I forget You. In the patience of Your Heart, Lord, continue to reveal Yourself to me everywhere.

Prayer Lord, it is written that You care especially for the lost sheep in this world. Today I place into Your hands someone I care about deeply (mention a particular person...). To be lost is terrible feeling, to be unknown and unsure is to live in fear. With you we have nothing to fear. Let this day, Lord, be another step closer to Your heart for all of us.

Prayer O Lord, You were no stranger to sorrow, to the loss of family and dear friends. You even knew the fear of death. Why, Lord, did you face such trials? Was it so You could understand me in my times of trial? Lord, I offer You my suffering today; do with it as You will, for it is a powerful gift. It is Yours, Lord; let it be my way of saying "I love You."

Prayer Lord, it is only because of the foolishness of Your cross that life makes sense. You abandoned Your own life to teach me what really matters. How I strive after foolish things and use people rather than love people. You died the shameful death on the cross to teach us the joyful lesson in life. Today, Lord, give me the courage to love what is important and to forsake all that is self-serving and deceitful.

Prayer Lord, if only we believed fully in You. Our Holy Father's motto is 'I am all Yours.' Help me believe that You are every answer to every problem, that You are everywhere to guide, strengthen, encourage and lead. Yes, I believe in You, but my faith is often weak. In times of trial I doubt You and in times of joy I forget You. In the patience of Your Heart, Lord, continue to reveal Yourself to me everywhere.
